How can I get a copy of my voter registration card?

The only way to obtain a copy of your voter registration card is to contact your local election official and request one.

To contact your local election official, go to the Election Official Directory, choose your state and voting region, and click "submit." On the following page click on the tab labeled “Election Official Contact Details” for contact information.

Note that a voter registration card is not necessary to vote, and in most states a voter registration card is not accepted as identification at the polls.

To find out your state’s voter identification requirements go to our State Voting Requirements directory. Select your state, and on the following page select your election location and "Identification Requirements." You'll find the information you need below the heading, "Voting In-Person."

If you have a valid photo ID, the U.S. Vote Foundation recommends that you bring it with you to the polls.

If you need to know the location of your polling place, you can look that up on our website:

  • Go to State Voting Information
  • Choose your state, and on the following page select your voting location and "State Lookup Tools - Am I Registered."
  • Click the link for, “Where is my polling place?” and it will take you to your state’s election website, where you can enter your information in order to find your polling location.
